American Heart Association Textbook Requirements

Why are textbooks required for the course?
The American Heart Association states "Each student must have the current appropriate course textbook readily available for use before, during, and after the course. Textbooks are designed for individual use and are an integral part of the student’s education. Students may reuse their textbooks during renewals or updates until new science guidelines are published" AHA Program Administration Manual (PAM) 6th edition. The American Heart Association allows students to use the manual and supplementary material during the testing process.

Do I need to purchase a book for my AHA online courses?
No. Study material is available digitally as part of the course and available up to 2 years.

Do I need to bring my textbook to class?
Yes. Topics in the manual are referenced during the course. The American Heart Association also allows students to use the textbook and supplementary material during the testing process.

Where can I purchase my provider textbook?
If you need to purchase a book, students can purchase when registering for the class, purchase separately through SMRT Indiana's online store or purchase from another vendor such as Amazon or Barnes & Nobles.

Can I reuse my textbook for future classes?
Yes. "Students may reuse their textbooks during renewals or updates until new science guidelines are published" AHA Program Administration Manual (PAM) 6th edition.
