ACLS is an advanced instructor lead course that highlights the importance of team dynamics, communication, systems of care, and immediate post cardiac arrest care.  It also covers airway management and related pharmacology.  In this course skills are taught in large group sessions and small group learning and testing situations where case based scenarios are presented specific to your practice.  This course is designed for those that will either direct or participate in the management of cardiac emergencies.  This includes personnel that work in a variety of healthcare settings.

The ACLS course uses learning stations for practice of essential skills and simulated clinical scenarios based on your practice and location that encourage active participation.  This onsite course is ideal for learners who prefer group interaction and instructor feedback while learning skills.

Will I receive CEU's for taking ACLS courses?
Continuing education credit are offered for multiple professions if the course is taken online but not if taken in the traditional instructor lead format. One exception is for EMS professionals who may use instructor lead courses towards continuing education.

Do I need to purchase a textbook?
American Heart Association states "each student must have the current appropriate course textbook readily available for use before, during, and after the course." The textbook is not included in the class price and the student is responsible for purchasing or gaining access. Students may reuse their textbooks during renewals or updates until new science guidelines are published.

How do I purchase a course textbook?
If you need to purchase a book, students can purchase when registering for the class, purchase separately through SMRT Indiana's online store or purchase from another vendor.

I need to be certified immediately. Can you help me?
We have a couple of solutions for you. You can take the classroom portion online and complete a skills checkoff at our location in Plainfield, IN.

Are there different classes for initial & renewal?
Not with SMRT Indiana. We combine the two for a better learning environment for all students.

How long does the class last?
On average this course lasts between 6-8 hours. This is not a guarantee as it may take longer depending on the needs of the participants.

I have difficulty reading rhythm strips will I still be able to pass the class?
Yes. You should have a general knowledge of ECG interpretation. Beyond this, there is no need to take an EKG course prior to ACLS our instructors will provide you with easy to understand ways to read rhythm strips during the course.

Does everyone have to be the team leader during the mega code testing?
Yes, however as the team leader that simply means you are coordinating the scenario with your team being able to assist you during the mega code.

How should I prepare for the course?
You are strongly encouraged to review the ACLS student manual prior to the course and also take the self assessment test.  The self assessment test can be accessed through the internet as follows: (enter the word "acls15" when prompted for access).
